February is Heart Awareness Month.

Nearly 6.5 million Americans over the age of 20 are estimated to have heart failure.

About 695,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year that's 1 in every 5 death making heart failure the leading cause of death in the United States.

I'm 62 years old and going back 45 years ago I was mentally and physically getting my mindset in shape for Marine Corps Boot Camp after I completed my 3 year enlistment I never gave up on my weight training and my running regimen and here's my reason why I have never given up.

It's now been over 5 years since I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure along with an enlarged heart.

Going back 5 years ago when I was first diagnosed with CHF my ejection fraction was at 20% capacity

Meaning my heart was only receiving 20% oxygen a normal heart receives between 55% to 70% oxygen.

My cardiologist original plan he planned out for me I was scheduled for LVAD surgery an LVAD is a bridge to a heart transplant.

LVAD is a Left Ventricular Assist Device.

Way before I was diagnosed with CHF I use to compete in marathons triathlons cycling events and working out at the gym.

After I was diagnosed with CHF I completely changed my own workout regimen that I implemented myself consisting of doing yoga pilates pushups crunches air squats and walking all to maintain a strong core and stability.

Although I have to admit it wasn't easy getting in my daily workouts when my EF was only at 20% capacity.

22 months after I was diagnosed with CHF my EF improved from 20% to 25% capacity and all this was due to taking all of my prescription medication and consuming a "heart healthy diet"

That's when my cardiologist informed me about Cardiac Contractility Modulation CCM Therapy for Heart Failure.

"OPTIMIZER SMART" is a less invasive surgery that replaces LVAD surgery and heart transplant surgery.

Unfortunately I was now diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease.

On 4/12/21 my cardiologist surgically implanted my "OPTIMIZER SMART" little by little 30 days after my "OPTIMIZER SMART" surgery I started to regain my cardiovascular health gains!

That's when I embarked on my running journey running streak days I ran for 800 consecutive days I ran 5,001.46 miles!

July 2023 after almost a 5 year absence from the gym that's when I decided to sign up with #eosgym

October of 2023 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes my main goal for 2024 is to reverse my type 2 diabetes.

Given the fact that I've been diagnosed with 3 debilitating diseases my body has to work 3 times harder than a healthy body.

Since my "OPTIMIZER SMART" surgery my EF has improved from 25% to 45% capacity and my kidneys have also improved as well!

Aside from my "OPTIMIZER SMART" surgery 4 other things that have been a contributing factor in my life have been my weight training (my new cardio workout consisting of doing 12" 18" 20" box jumps along with pull push sled) a heart healthy diet and a kidney friendly diet along with getting a good night sleep has been extremely crucial and all this has been a huge asset in upgrading my life along with improving my cardiovascular health gains!

Everything I've been doing over the last 45 years of my life has been paying off for me especially the last 5 years of my life.

Im also a 22 year blood cancer survivor! I was diagnosed with Stage IV Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma also known as Hodgkin's Disease.

I'm 62 years old and I've been Optimized And Hope is Here!
