Losing 2.8 kg a Week
01 August 2014
I have changed to the ketogenic diet. Enough yoyo-ing on and off diets for me- it's not my style and I hate it. I want to just get stuck into a diet, commit to it and have success. I changed because:
1. I want to try the low carb dieting that everyone is talking about,
2. Low carb diets are touted as having better weight loss results,
3. Tony needs to reduce his carbs to get his blood sugar in control. I probably do, too.
I plan to be at goal by the end of January, but if I can maintain losses over 1kg/ week, I might be able to make my goal before Christmas. More importantly, I'd like to see Tony under 120kg by December, and at goal by the middle of next year. I'd really like him to stick at this diet until he gets to a healthy weight, and not give in after 30kg like he has done previously.

Finally back below the weight I was a few weeks ago. I really notice when we don't exercise, neither of us lose weight. After a hike up in weight on the weekend of the grand prix, it has taken nearly 2 weeks to get back to that weight again. That is despite not eating particularly badly, and we kept to our fast too, only eating lunch on Sunday as allowed! Shows what damage too many alcoholic drinks does.

I have made it through four weeks of lent without lunch or daytime snacking. This excludes Sundays, which are not part of Lent and we allow ourselves to eat lunch on Sundays, plus the occasional snack. I'm sort of disappointed how poor my weight loss has been the last 2 weeks, but I suspect that is because I've been hungry and lethargic, and my enthusiasm for exercise is pretty low. I'm going to try really hard to increase my exercise so I can get back to losing decent amounts of weight, and also cooking at home, which I haven't done much of in the last few weeks. I suspect that eating out, even though we have mostly been trying hard to eat healthy foods, is sabotaging our weight loss efforts- no matter how carefully you choose, you can't really guess what's in the food you buy. So, 3 goals for next week: cook at home, do an hour's exercise most days, and continue the Monday to Saturday lenten fast between breakfast and dinner.

My weight has been plateaued the last 10 days, despite my eating very well, though I haven't done nearly as much exercise as I'd like- things just keep getting in the way (and leaving exercise till late afternoon is not a good idea in the rainy season). Happy this morning to see a drop on the scales at last- the weight plateau is probably due to water retention as often seems to be the case with me.
I'm happy, regardless, that I am sticking to my healthy eating goals, keeping my Lent fast every day, and working my way through "Weight Loss God's Way" exercises to try to sort out my thinking. I feel healthier ad appreciate how much weight I have lost already, and am worrying less about the "goal" and how much weight I have to lose and by when. Instead, I'm thinking more in terms of looking after myself in the long-term.
