I'm actually quite happy with a very moderate weight gain over December. It's been a hell of a month. I've had LOTS to do and have only eaten low carb when I was able to do so- the rest of the time I have eaten whatever is convenient, and very little home-cooked food. Over Christmas, our four-day new year break and two weeks in Australia early December for our son's wedding, my eating was pretty appalling. So only 2kg gain is good. My husband's gain was significantly more, such a shame as he had worked really hard and had just slipped out of the "morbidly obese" rating.

Well, we are back to normal life now, and will be at home and a lot less busy, so we have started off on a good foot. We're back on the ketogenic diet and this year we are also planning to introduce a small amount (whatever we can find time for) of cycling again. I'm hoping to schedule a short morning ride on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Let's see if I can get him to commit to a regular exercise regime (he's not much good at commitments, especially early morning ones!).

Our next weight loss mini goals are for him to get back to only being "obese" (that will be a little over 4kg) and for me to be "normal weight" bmi (also just over 4kg). Give us to the end of January for that, though we should be able to make it much sooner!

The goal for this year is to both finally be at our goal weights, in the healthy weight range! Our lives are on the move in many ways. It's a year to look forward to!

At last I am under 80kg!!! So thrilled to finally break the mark, and now only have less than 3kg to be in healthy weight range.

Still losing weight, but it's slower than we'd like (both my husband and myself), and I wonder if it is the failure to get into nutritional ketosis? I bought a ketosis meter and since I've had it, I haven't had a reading over 0.6 and it's usually more like 0.3. I have given up maltitol now, as I was eating a few "sugar-free" lollies every day (1-10 of them), but it doesn't seem to have affected my ketones yet. Also, my husband rarely eats the maltitol lollies and his ketones are also low (0.3). Any suggestions? We mostly eat 3 meals a day and aim for fat 60-120g, net carbs 20-25g, protein 60-70g. We do eat out at least once a week and although we try to choose foods that will fit our macros, I wonder if we are getting a lot of unwanted flours and sugars (we live in Malaysia and they put sugar in a lot of foods, like curries, vegetable dishes). Would eating out once a week throw my ketones for the entire week? Has anyone has experience with this while testing ketones?

Anyway, at least we are losing weight, but I want to increase the rate as the amount of time and effort I invest in food cannot be sustained in the long term, and as my husband still has 40kg to lose, it will be long-term at our current rate.

While my sister was visiting, we ate out a lot. While we tried to choose things on the ketogenic diet, it's impossible to regulate what you are eating from a restaurant, and neither of us lost any weight. Eating things you didn't prepare yourself is tricky because the macros are so finely tuned, and for us it seems vitally important to stick to our macros (ie. no more than around 25g carb, 60g protein BUT eating plenty of healthy fats, at least 80-100g). Last weekend, after a week of 4 meals at restaurants, we went to the big smoke and ate 1 or 2 meals that were definitely NOT on the ketogenic diet. We are going well again now, after four days of the usual eating, very carefully regulated with all our macros accounted for at the beginning of the week.

I just realised that I have only around 4kg till I reach the healthy weight range, and less than 12kg to my goal weight. Wow! My husband has more, but in 5kg he will no longer be "morbidly obese" by the tables, and THAT is good news too. We would like to be at those goals by the time we visit Australia in 5 weeks for our son's wedding.
