Well - that's interesting. This week was a big challenge. Out on Tuesday night at a professional meetup over dinnertime. Free drinks and food. Didn't get home til 9:45, with no dinner prepped. Wed - lunch out to celebrate my FIL 90th birthday. Thurs- stressful day, job interview, and out for dinner with colleagues (a monthly dumplings feast). Friday - another job interview.
How did I survive:
Meetup: just had a diet coke and stayed away from the food table. When I got home, a handful of almonds along with a split Lebanese cucumber filled with salmon and mayo.
Wed- when stressed, walk AWAY from the kitchen! And chose steamed fish and vegies at the restaurant, and a treat for dessert was a latte.
Thursday didn't go so well. I had one of the best dumplings then let everyone know I'm doing low carb. My colleague tried to help out, ordering fried chicken and sweet chilli chicken wings. I took one chicken wing - way too much sugary sauce - and then stuck to chinese broccoli for the rest of the night.
Friday - I clearly felt the urge to snack and binge after the interview. Tried walking away from the kitchen - actually out the door and off for an hours walk.
Great to know I can still lose weight with stressful and social challenges.

After a month of dieting, my scales have stopped praising my efforts each and every morning. For over a week stuck around 80.5kg. My mind has been sowing seeds of doubt - maybe all this effort to change to a low carb diet isn't worth it. Maybe it's too restrictive. Maybe I should allow myself more fruit. Surely a small serve of rice would be OK. Wouldn't a slice of buttered toast be nice? 😅
Bugger off sabotaging thoughts!!!
I know the diet is working. So to reinforce my sense of progress, I am trying;
- Not weighing myself every day. Once a week will do.
- Making a little more effort to weigh and log my food, rather than estimating
- Acknowledging other positives, such as a smaller waist measurement, looser clothing
- Packing a backpack with weighty items equivalent to the weight I've lost so far. Anytime I doubt my progress I can take that backpack for a walk up the hill and get real immediate sense of my longterm progress.
I know the scales will shift again at some point. Until they do, my challenge is to keep going, to make sure I'm building new good habits and to remember this is a long term journey.
