My Internet/TV cable was out for last few days because somebody accidentally shredded the fiber optic cable. What a change of lifestyle having to listen to the news on AM radio. I'm not the type to just sit around so I stayed busy and saw a lot of sunsets and did lot of walking. Many years ago (before internet/TV) there were not that many obese people. The human body has not evolved fast enough for a sedentary lifestyle. Seriously, if you look at the trends of things to come. In a few years there will be no need for a Bank Branch because now can just take image of a check to deposit. Everything will be done online so we will not even have to move at all. Just imagine one day that there will be a website for people to lose weight and get virtual support from others online who they will never ever meet in person. Virtual Reality at its best.

Losing 0.5 kg a Week

Yesterday was my Birthday and I was surprised that my mother/step father flew in from the east coast. We had a nice dinner at my brothers house and of course my mother was so shocked to see me after loosing 100 pounds. She even bought a pint of Haagen Daz Rum Raisin Ice cream to help me Celebrate... LOL. I had maybe a few ounces of it (half cup) and resisted the Cake. It was the first time I had Ice cream in 7 months and I realized I can get by fine without out it. Gone are those days that I would by a pint of it every trip to the grocery store.

Today I stood on the scale and realized that I am 100 pounds less than I was at my highest weight (about 8 months ago before I started trying to lose weight). Wow, about 30 percent of my body weight just vanished. Last week I was a guest speaker for others who are in the VA weight management program that I completed last December. Speaking in front of a large audience or classroom was never a problem for me because I used to be an instructor for the Space Program (after my injury). Many in the class were inspired and impressed that I could lose 90 pounds within 7 months without the weight surgery. There were other guest speakers like myself who lost a lot of weight and we each had our own story on how we overcame the changes we made in our life style. One thing that all the guest speakers had in common was that we all stopped drinking diet soda and artificial sweeteners. I know that a lot of people still think it helps them lose weight but what they don't understand is how much more hungry they become after ingesting artificial sweeteners. Why? well our bodies were not designed for it. If our ancestors for the last few thousand years were drinking diet soda then our bodies would evolve to find a way to safely adjust to nutrasweet or splenda. We clean our external bodies by bathing/showering in water. We also clean our insides or impurities with water. Water allows us to clean the impurities out with urine and sweat. Now would you bath or shower in diet soda?

Losing 0.9 kg a Week

Was a really busy week and had to limit my walking a few days but made sure to keep my fiber intake. Went to see my VA primary doctor and he is concerned about my really low blood pressure and will take a EKG and stress test soon. I stopped taking beta blockers months ago at the advice of the VA weight loss RN. My heart rate at rest is in the 50's and 40's when i am sleeping. My oxygen levels are very high and I feel great. I told my doctor that I walk about 5 miles every day and I believe the low blood pressure is from the activity and the spices I put in my brown rice/quinoa (garlic, ginger, chia). I have just been following the rules the VA dietician gave me and its working they way it should. But I guess it never hurts to be sure.
