Well crud; autoimmune panel came back this morning, all was negative except one. Looks like it’s Hashimoto’s disease. Don’t know much about it and never heard of it before. So anyone with this and can help me figure this out would be greatly appreciated and welcomed.

Well it's good to finally have an answer at least. While I have heard of it im afraid it was only in passing. I read up on it this evening 🌆 and get back with you. It sucks that it's not something that will just pass but considering the severity and duration of the issue I'm not surprised. Sorry friend I know it can be quite heartbreaking to find out that you have something that doesn't go away but this will give you a place to start from and hopefully a starting place to begin to feel better. 😊

it's the antibodies that go with low Thyroid. I take Thyroid medicine and it helps with symptoms. it's easily treatable. you just have to keep on top of your lab numbers.

I'm not sure if what I had before I had my thyroid taken out was Hashimoto's, but I've had thyroid issues. The big thing is to get your numbers dialed in and get on the right dose of thyroid hormone. With this medication, generic is not a good idea, because it can vary too much in strength. The name brand Synthroid isn't expensive, even if you don't have prescription coverage. I hope you don't mind having your blood drawn too much -- there can be a few rounds of blood tests until they get the dosage right

Thanks everyone who has commented, am going tomorrow for more blood work. I’ve asked the dr about it is affecting my gut and how I process food. I know the thyroid helps the metabolism process. Hopefully more answers will continue to come in. With this new diagnosis, my gastroenterologist has moved up my appointment with here from December to September.

A lot of people have it. Even young people.

At least only one came back! I found out I have Hashimotos in January 2023. I’ve struggled with it. My dosage continues to go up as my body is actively attacking my thyroid. I am not a doctor and, you should speak with yours, but I can share what my doctors have recommended I do. Recently she recommended gluten free, no processed foods, no added sugar, only honey and syrup, wild caught seafood only, grass fed and/organic beef and chicken. She also recommended supplementing with methyl vitamin B complex and 400mg of selenium daily. Vitamin D is also good for Hashimotos patients. Sorry this post is so long and good luck!

I’ve been gluten free for the last 8 years and last year was diagnosed with allergies to tree nuts and soy.

I have someone very close to me who is 25 now, but had hoshimotos since early teens. Find an endocrinologist you like and keep up your appointments. If you can't take the generic medication, try the name brand, or try different color coatings. I wish doctors had told this young lady this earlier. She would've been more consistent with her medication.

Hi I have Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Was dx over 30 years ago. I’m life dependent on Synthroid and must get bloodwork every 6 months. The main frustration over this time is finding the right endocrinologist who will help you feel good and get you at the right dosage. Worst doctors will make you do bloodwork every 3 months and change your dosage constantly. I had to be my own advocate and after yo yo effect of dosage going up and down I tell doctors to retest my levels and to please keep me on 125 mcg as that is where I feel my best. There’s much to learn about and endure. Only in the last few years have I found expanded information that has helped me. Check out Dr Isabella Wentz..a pharmacist who has Hashimoto. I get her email newsletter. I’ve learned so much! I avoid a few foods drink 2x the water I used to and feel great on a steady dosage. Skipping or doubling up on a missed dosage will make you feel miserable. Be consistent and have hope! There are facebook support groups and other authors who have a wealth of information like Dr Amy Myers, but I avoid facebook personally. Best to you!!

@EllenEP, just found out yesterday from my PCP; so no endocrinologist yet, my dr wants to check my tsh today, my tsh numbers two months ago were within normal range, but that was before knowing I had Hashimoto’s. I do know I’ve become more sensitive to cold and not metabolizing or processing food normally in my gut. I’m also gluten free and on a low fodmap diet, not to mention allergic to tree nuts, soy and lactose intolerant. So this new discovery is very new and don’t know anything about it

Rob, just fyi, with Hashimotos you can test normal in your TSH. They should be checking T3and T4 as well. Not all Drs are that knowledgeable about this disease so it's important to get an endocrinologist down the road.

Rob -- make sure they're using the current guidelines for TSH level. It used to he 0.5-4.5, but there's evidence that 0.3-3.0 is more optimal. When I first started having thyroid problems, I had every hypothyroid symptom in the book -- weight gain, unexplained fatigue/sluggishness, dry skin and hair -- but I kept testing "normal", so they wouldn't treat me for it. Advocate for yourself if they're undertreating your symptoms just because the numbers look right to them
