maribrooks's Journal, 15 May 09

I've always felt heavy. I am "big-boned" and 5'8" with a flat chest. I have huge thighs and calves. I was around 190 in high school until I started running on the cross country team and lost 25 lbs. I felt good at 165 and stayed around there until around late 2005, when I started gaining.

I worked a stressful job that I didn't like and when that ended I started graduate school, which is also stressful (but I like it much better). I finished my MA last August and just finished the first year of a PhD program last week. I have gained a little over 30 lbs. in the last 3 or so years, and I want them to go away.

While I would love to be even thinner than 165, I don't want to be unrealistic. At 165, I would feel better and not have a giant gut, which is worse than the large legs that I cannot do much about.

Today I went on a nice walk. I walked for an hour at a brisk pace and then did some free weights and crunches. It's not much, but it's a start.
