Whole Grain Pita Pizza

This pizza is so good you'll swear it came from a brick oven pizzeria.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Flour the bottom of the pita. Place the floured side down in a frying pan on medium heat. Use a spatula to push the middle of the pita down. Brown the bottom of the pita to your liking.
  2. Remove the pita from heat and spread tomato paste sauce around, leaving about 1/2" all the way around the pita for the crust.
  3. Sprinkle half of the basil onto the sauce.
  4. Sprinkle cheese substitute onto the sauce across the pita evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the rest of the basil onto the cheese.
  6. Place the pizza in the oven on a cookie sheet or pizza stone for about three minutes or until cheese melted.
  7. Turn the oven on broil to brown the cheese to your liking.
  8. Remove, cut with pizza cutter and enjoy!

Sounds great. This could be with chicken too and some organic/low sodium real toomaters or matersauce and some Mrs. Dash Roasted Red Pepper seasoning. Yum.

I just baked my pita in the oven with pizza sauce, green peppers, and red onions and 1oz lowfat cheese. It was GREAT! I loved it. For LA weight loss Id count it as 1 startch 1dairy and 1vegtable.

I'm eating a variation of this right now. But mine is only 4 pts. Instead of tomato paste use about 1 1/2 - 2 tbsp pizza sauce. It's .5 pts for 4 tbsp. Then 1/4 cup of reg cheese is 2 pts. and pepperoni is .2 pts a slice. 5 slices = 1 pt. And the pita is a pt as well. I didn't fry it, I just put it in my toaster oven for about 5 min then toast it for another couple of min. I have to have a crunchy crust.

You can do so much more with this! Add peppers, onions and zucchini, add spices to the tomato paste, add spinach along with the basil! Sustitute 1/4 c. of the mozzarella with parmesan, if you can (it has lots more flavour).
