Chris1979's Journal, 27 Jan 10

Can I just say that I was so excited to log on to Fat Secret today??? I did a "low day" yesterday. I got the idea from Info. I knew I'd overeaten on the weekend so I tried to be very light w/ my eating yesterday. I had a cheese stick, a banana, a bowl of cereal, coffee, a sugar free popsicle. I drank lots and lots of water. I know that for a long term plan that would be bad (to eat so few calories) and hurt my metabolism's speed, but for one day I just needed to get back on track. And it worked!!! 145.8 is the lowest weight I've recorded in a long, long time.

Today I will be back to eating my regular amount of points but continuing to drink copious amounts of water. It really does seem to "flush" my system and keep me full. I wasn't much of a water drinker before I came back to Fat Secret and now I can't seem to get enough!!!

Last night Salem and I went to the grocery store and loaded up on fresh fruit and veggies, and healthy foods in general. I never understand when people say it's cheaper to eat crappy foods than to eat healthy. As long as you stick to seasonal fruits and veggies and what's on sale, I personally have found it to be LESS than we were spending before. Also, if you think of it in terms of future health related costs (i.e. not getting a heart attack down the line due to poor eating choices now)-- it's got to be less expensive, not only monetarily but emotionally as well!

THREE THINGS I'M GRATEFUL FOR TODAY:
1) Didn't get a ticket at school even though I totally violated the 2 hour time frame :)
2) Free H1N1 vaccines at work
3) My lowest weight in months recorded today

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Great journal Chris. You are doing fantastic. Good for you and you are right about eating healthy.

I agree about the food shopping. When I first did low-carb my grocery bills were insanely high--but I was buying a lot of salmon and lamb and cheese. (Making my own mouth water.) But now I'm much more careful about my grocery bills and it is definitely cheaper to eat homemade food than takeout or restaurants. If you keep to whole ingredients and buy what's on sale, seasonal, etc., you'll be fine. However, it IS cheaper to eat a McD's hamburger than a grass-fed ground beef steak burger on a whole grain bun with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. Still--you can keep is reasonable.

Congrats!!! I too have found that an occasional "low" day seems to boost my metabolism and clear up my system!! I agree, too low everyday would not be good but I do not think an occasional "fast" or "low day" negatively impacts our health but instead quite the opposite. I too agree about food shopping. It just depends on what you are buying. If you shop the "sales" and what is currently in season I don't think you spend much more than you would otherwise. Some of the convenience foods are very expensive. Beets is right, some things are more expensive though, and an occassional fast food hamburger probably won't kill us!! LOL!!! Enjoy your moment!!

Hi Chris, today is *definitely* going to be a low day for me as that black flag is a very bad omen. The good part is that a single low day will bring me out of it and, if I alternate it with a regular day and another low day, I will have recovered to a certain extent. As long as you don't overdo things, low days are a Godsend imho. Today, I feel like doing two back to back low days but, since that is so easy to say, I had better prove to myself that I can do one first. ;-) I really understand the excitement you had today when you logged into Fatsecret and the tremendous psychological boost a low day can provide. It's great to see *a new low* on your chart and to see you resume your steady course downwards. Congrats and keep up the excellent work!

Congrats on the low weigh in! I never really thought about doing a "low" day...but I get dizzy from not eating so I'd be nervous. I could use a moral booster, though, so maybe I should give it a try!
