Faster weight loss is no better than slow weight loss as far as the health benefits go.
Losing weight slowly or quickly won't tip the scale in your favour when it comes to overall health. People who lose weight quickly versus those who lose it slowly don't get any additional health benefits and it's the amount of weight loss overall that can have an impact.

People who lose weight quickly tend to have similar improvements in their health to those who lose weight slowly.

I just want to highlight here that while weight loss is hard, the maintenance of weight loss is even harder.

In the past, we have been told it is more healthy to lose about 500gm to 1 kilo a week as you are more likely to keep your weight off if you lose it slowly.

The reason for this is because when you lose weight slowly you are more inclined to make lifestyle changes and adjust yourself slowly to that way of life.

A review of many different weight loss studies concluded:
“The totality of the evidence does not support the myth that gradual weight loss improves long-term outcomes.”
The word they used is "myth".
The myth of gradual weight loss is more successful than fast weight loss.

However, a program that allows you to lose weight more quickly can boost motivation as you can see the change faster and with the right menu attached these programs can also be easy to follow as there is no ambiguity about what to eat.

What are your thoughts on this?

As far as health and wellness go this is one of the most important things aside from your mental attitude.
Basically what we put in our mouth is a reflection of our overall health and wellness. If we put junk food in we are going to feel like junk. If we are putting healthy food in we will feel energized and vibrant. The choice is yours.
When we are you thinking about food it is quite common for people just to open the fridge and take whatever is in front of them. This is where we need to make an effort to make sure the food within our house is suitable for whatever sort of lifestyle we want to live.

I am not telling people how they should live your lives if you are a vegetarian or a vegan these concepts will work for you as well.

One of the biggest things I have found is that when I am hungry and I open the fridge and I will go for whatever is the easiest thing to have. When you are looking at losing weight or maintaining a healthy lifestyle it is important to make sure that you have healthy options available for yourself within your home.

In most cases, we need to think about other people in our home, whether that be our children and/or our partner. I am an #emptynester so I only need to think about my husband and myself.

Once a week I do a version of meal prep, where I will cook all my breakfasts for a week and do as much meal prep as possible towards my lunches and our dinners as I can. In my case, I also do meal prep for my husband’s lunches. This way we have everything at hand and ready to go and we do not need to think about what we are going to have for dinner that night.

By planning our meals ahead of time we can make sure that we have all of the products that we need to make sure we can prepare these meals. There is nothing worse than going to cook a meal and getting halfway through and realising that you do not have an ingredient you need.

I was made redundant during the first wave of COVID in 2020.

This shattered my world, my self-worth took a beating and to top it all off the following week South Australia went into COVID lockdown. This meant that I lost all social connections pretty much overnight. So, I started to do what most people do when they are alone and lost and just started to eat.

I am ashamed to say I blossomed to 124kgs.
I shut off completely and when we were allowed back out I would not attend any social outings as I was worried about how I looked and what people would think.

Over the past few years, I had tried all sorts of diets, “Ways of Life” and even Duromine and acupuncture and was never able to get below 119kg. Every time I lost weight I would put it straight back on again. My Derby name is Alotta Amazon because I am a whole lot of women. And now I had ballooned even more. I honestly thought I was never going to be healthy again. That I was past it and just had to put up with it. My doctor even told me that I was fighting genetics and would just have to live with it, even after discovering I was a type 2 diabetic.

Then came the day that I finally opened my ears and listened to the amazing and awesome friend. She had been on a program and lost a very noticeable amount of weight. So, I thought “stuff” genetics. It is all about choices and I made the choice to be healthy.

And as they say, the rest is history. Or should that be, the weight is history.
