I've had weight issues all my life. I am now 43 and have severe chronic back issues (due to 4 auto accidents) that have recently caused me to gain weight as my movement has been cut way back. It's VERY discouraging to see the number on the scale.
I have a beautiful Akita who I enjoy walking. He loves being outside so he's a good motivator although sometimes his pace makes my pain worse.
I bought myself a Garmin VivoFit2 for Christmas (I LOVE IT!) and it's also been a good motivator to get me up when I need to. I have it set at 7500 steps a day and I often reach that goal and beyond. However the really bad pain days I don't even come close (generally in the 4000-5000 step range).
I did try once the NutriSystem meal plan but there was too much that I just didn't like. I did however like the shakes and I have re-ordered them and am incorporating them now to help me lose some pounds.
I'm also a Mom to 2, divorced, and I love my job even though its 8 hours behind a computer.
I know I will need motivation and I am also happy to help motivate you.
