Hi,
I am a 52yo male who has struggled with weight since my 30's. At 5'10", 225 pounds, I'm well into the obese range but you would not know it to look at me. I've attempted to live a fit life by working out, walking, running, biking, swimming etc., so I do carry the extra weight well. Unfortunately, as I get older, the dietary habits that contribute to the extra weight are starting to take a toll. High blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, gout, joint issues - pretty much all of the metabolic syndrome X problems.
I am convinced that grains and their derivatives are the bane of mankind and the source of many of my problems. I am now attempting to adhere to a Paleo/Atkins/Caveman diet. I've used Atkins before and was quite successful until the pressures of the modern world pushed me back to my old habits. It's time to stop kidding myself that I'll change on my own and accept any all help I can get. Trying to buck the onslaught of misinformation from the government and the medical community to just too difficult without constant reinforcement.
Good luck to you no matter which road you have chosen for your dietary fight. Together we can all succeed.
