That says more about other person than it does about you, but I'm sorry some jerk made you feel that way. People can be awful. Character flaws are harder to fix than body weight issues...... Hang in there!

Well said, KPW! I wholeheartedly agree, especially when someone is oblivious to the fact they are a total jerk.

Had a similar problem yesterday, only it was friends, or at least I had thought they were. And just now on another site, the same thing happened. KPW you certainly are a wonderful writer.

JMD, just remember, "To belittle, you have to be little." Take no stock in what was said to you at the grocery. You are committed to making yourself a better person, and obviously the person at the grocery is wallowing in self hate. You are awesome!

There's a lovely book called The Four Agreements you might investigate. One of the "agreements" is "Don't take anything personally." Yes, and that's even the nastiness (or even the niceness) that's directed right at you. What a stranger throws your way has nothing to do with you, it's just that person acting out their inner self. See yourself as inviolate and your experience will change. You can do this even if you feel your self esteem is sub par if you just make the choice that their negativity can't touch you. Set boundaries. When I need bolster myself I listen to "Break My Stride." I'm running and I won't touch ground. ALSO, people attack what they fear - you have power over them because they fear YOU.

my favorite comment to people who are ignorant twigs, if they call me fat and when they do, I tell them at least the wind can't blow me away.., lol, and I try to shrug it off.

You have some very good advice here. I remember being hurt as a child... wish I could had this advice. (My mother told me that when a kid called me “fat head,” he was talking about me being smart. Since the kid did not value brains, I did not take her advice seriously.)

I always go back to this quote whenever I need a reminder on whose opinion is most important.
It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own. -Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius

Jmd, remember that our brains are hard wired biologically to remember and dwell on the negative. Recognize it and let it pass like a fart in a windstorm. That’s about the value this has from this source. Look through the positives of your day and write them down instead. You’ve accepted that the negative happened. Now accept and embrace the positive as well and look for it to reinforce it in your life and in your mind. 🤷🏻♀️Sounds new agey and all that, but it’s basic biology to rewiring the way our brains think. 🤔You ever seen those relentlessly cheerful people and thought WTF? That can’t be for real! LOL They can if they have been rewiring their brains their whole lives! (I used to just think they were on a constant acid trip until I asked one! Hey, I admit it. 🤷🏻♀️I’m cynical. LOL) Feel better if you chose to. It is all up to you. Take care. 🙆🏻♀️
