One week down on SBD phase I. I'll weigh in "officially" tomorrow a.m. (of course I've stepped on the scale daily - can't resist it). The weekend has been hard on the routine. Friday night, we went to our friends' house for dinner. They fixed pasta, the salad had carrots, and there was homemade ice cream with fresh raspberries on top. Of course, no one forced me to drink three glasses of wine, either, but I was feeling a need for a break after five days of being good. But I'm back on track now. Since I view this diet as retraining me to eat for the rest of my life, then I don't feel like one night is such a set back. Too much rigidity is what I think will make me rebel. (On the other hand, I can't relax too much!)

My husband, who has also been following the SBD (and was much better at keeping to it on Friday night than I!), said something that has been bothering me, though. He said he hasn't lost any weight. Frankly, he has more to lose than I, and I also believe that men often lose more quickly than women (to the chagrin of many women!), so I am baffled that he hasn't lost any weight. And, he gave up daily glasses of orange juice and an evening beer. What gives? Is it possible that he's taking in too few calories, or not the right types? I'm afraid he'll get discouraged and fall back into old habits if he doesn't see results.

That is baffling about why Mr. Cricket isn't losing weight. Is he sure that his starting weight is accurate? Is he being pretty strict about following the diet? Is he able to exercise at all? I don't know what to say about the idea that too few calories would cause him to stagnate. I've heard people say that about plateaus, but not during the first week. That seems odd. You might want to post this question to the discussion board (rather than a journal)--more people would see it for longer there and you might get a good response from someone who has similar experiences. Keep up the good work!
