DairyKing's Journal, 08 May 12

Up at 3:15 to do 3.0 miles at 11:30 pace this morning. Legs are feeling pretty strong - forcing myself to hold back on the short easy runs. I'll have ample opportunity to stretch out on the speed workout Thursday. DW had her 3rd chemo treatment yesterday. Things seemed to go well. Met them after work for Taco Bell cuisine, where I indulged in two chalupas. She's eating more while on this chemo plan, and taking me along for the ride. I'm doing pretty good, but finding that we are eating out more often than I would like, and unfortunately, not always making the best food choices. Well, it is what it is; best I can hope for in the race is to be a fast fat guy. :D It's not that bad; I'm holding my own around 220 (ish); still lighter than I was when I ran my last race 8 years ago - and I expect to do better. So, gonna quit writing for now, and take a little peek at my friends' journals. C ya!

You didn't try the Doritos shell taco? That'd be the one of the only things of Taco Bell 'cuisine' that might get me in the door of ours here. For some reason when they're combined into a 2-for-1 fastfood joint with KFC, the overall quality goes down, and service wait time triples. In my fat days living in Mpls I ate Taco Bell chicken quesadillas pretty much everynight at 11:30pm on the way home from work.

Yeah, Jess, ours is not combined with KFC. The quality of both of those have gone down in our area. I can't stand sour cream, and when I order anything from Taco Bell, I've got a 50% chance of getting it without sour cream, once I tell them I don't want it. And I won't eat anything off the buffet at KFC anymore. Here is what Runners World says are the best fast food options: TACO BELL: The Fresco Chicken and Grilled Steak Soft Tacos are made without sour cream and cheese (150 calories, 4 g fat, 9 to 12 g protein). WENDY'S: A large chili with beef and beans has 40 percent of your daily fiber needs (310 calories, 9 g fat, 26 g protein). McDONALD'S: A single patty provides protein and iron without sauces or bacon (250 calories, 9 g fat, 12 g protein). Of course, I didn't follow any of their advice. :)

Good morning. I refuse to try the dorito taco which calls my name every time I pass the place. I dont know how it knows my name, maybe from all the doritos Ive eaten over the years. Love the chicken fresco burrito. Seriously you just gotta have the bell every now and again.

It is good that DW is eating. That was the hardest for my mom - she couldn't/wouldn't eat so she was very, very weak. I would have gone with the dorito taco, too. It just sounds so good.

Must have been a Taco Bell weekend!! I stopped at the drive-thru on my way home from the gym/grocery shopping on sunday and had 1 chicken chalupa, but it was COLD except for the meat (which was luke-warm), so I still ate most of it because I was starving, and then chucked the rest. What a disappointment. Jess - I almost got the Dorito's shell taco and then I didn't.. maybe next weekend. :) Anyway, great job on the run DK, glad you're feeling strong!

"fast fat guy." That's funny DK. You're doing great and being a wonderful supportive husband. At least you're aware of your intake. That's great. You've got a great pace too. I'll bet you are wicked strong. WTG!

Thanks all; I am really surprised that things are going as well as they are. We only have one more of these "intense" chemo treatments. Then the other 12 are a different milder drug. Keeping fingers crossed.
