icing's Journal, 13 Mar 10

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I started my diet last week, and I've really been watching what I eat and I've been exercising. According to the number of calories I've been eating and the number of calories I've been burning, the pounds should be melting away...but they aren't. Since I've started, I've lost 5 pounds, but I gained 4 and 1/2 back over the week. So, I've only lost 1/2 a pound.
On a good note, I'm starting to see my ab muscles. My arms have a little bit of muscle tone, and I have a two pack. Now, I just have to find the other 4 under there.

Muscles weigh more than fat, so if you are really seeing a lot of muscle growth that can be part of it. Also, glancing over your food journal you are taking in calories, but very few of your foods have any nutritional value - are you eating any fruits and veggies? The instant breakfast is actually not a good way to lose as they are designed to actually make you feel fuller longer by retaining fat, calories, etc. And are you getting at least 8 c. of water a day? Hope these suggestions help!

If you just started your exercise plan, your muscles get little tears and retain water to help them heal. It can show up on the scale as no loss, small loss, or even a gain. It is temporary. It actually takes weeks of hard work (women especially)to build actual muscle. If you notice a difference in your clothes than you are losing fat/inches. You will get smaller and leaner with exercise. The scale will eventually follow. I always say I would rather be 150 and a size 4 than a 140 and a size 8. Exercise and fat loss make all the difference. Measure yourself so you can see the inches lost when the scale doesn't move as much as you want. Getting in shape is a slow hard process. Give it time, you will look fab!!
