acw114's Journal, 18 Dec 07

I began getting a little pissed off mid-last week when the pounds weren't melting off anymore and naturally, I fell off the wagon. On Saturday, we had a friend's Christmas party and my God, the spread of food was simply incredible and in all good conscience, I couldn't leave it alone. Homemade gourmet truffles, Ferrer Roche, lasagna, etc. I like to tell myself that it would have been rude to ignore the hosts' food but we all know I just caved.

I avoided weighing myself because of Saturday's discretions and on Sunday, made an executive decision that I would make it a carb weekend and had myself a big ole plate of pasta. Yesterday was kickoff again and this morning, I stood on the scales. At first, I thought it said 177.5 and I nearly cried but it was actually 171.5 so I'm back to my low.

I was very strict yesterday and plan on continuing that for the rest of the week (at least until my Dad arrives for Xmas vacation from Ireland). I have no intention of being good Christmas Day. All bets are off since a lot of the food of that day is only cooked on that one specific day and when the opportunity comes up only once a year for my sister's four-cheese au gratin (make extra, sis) or her broccoli and bacon medley, I'm not passing it up.

I don't plan on any diets on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day! Good luck to you!

Maybe atkins isn't the best diet for you if you have a hard time giving up carbs. I know I could not give carbs up completely. I did atkins a number of years ago and lost 20 pounds in one month, then went off the plan because I missed bread and pasta SOO much, and gainded it all back and more. I am not bashing atkins at all so nobody needs to jump down my throat, I'm simply saying it's not for everyone. South beach is a bit more forgiving when it comes to carbs, and I do much better with it.

In a way Lotus is right. If you can't give up high-carb foods as a way of life then you might want to find a different eating plan. Atkins is a dangerous one to be cheating on because of the high fat content. It is only healthy to eat a significant amount of fat if you keep VERY low-carb and stay in ketosis. However, if you plan to commit to it 100% right after Christmas, then just try to eat sensibly until then. Good luck!

Even on Atkin's.. I don't think my fat intake sky-rockets. I've kept it the same since 04' and have done very well.. I stick to mostly eggs, tuna, chicken, turkey and salad vegies... I might have a ribeye once or twice a month and I don't have bacon everyday but everyone is different. It works really well for me since I love those things anyway and although I've cut my carbs down... I still don't go overboard w/ the fat. I'm more into healthy all over. Fine coming from the cookie monster huh??? LOL... I have never done as terrible as I have since Sept.... but this has been a difficult year for me and my family that I won't go into. I look for 2008 to be the best, heck... I doubt it could be worse than this year... good luck to you in the new year. Make it count!!!!

I think a lot of it had to do with my period that coincided with last weekend, hence hormonal eating. Normally, on the first day of my period, there isn't enough food in the world. Other than that, I've been doing quite well with sticking to the diet. I do need to watch the fat intake. Living mostly on turkey bacon, cheese sticks, chicken and cucumbers.
