It depends on your current lifestyle. Most of us were eating way over our RDI everyday so by just restricting ourselves to our RDI as our maximum limit, we started losing weight. Then the choice is yours on how to go from there. Eating 20% less than your RDI will be a good start then you observe your results on a weekly basis and adjust for the following week. If 20% less than RDI isnt working then try 25% less than your RDI. The entire journey is about experimenting and learning about your body but it takes time to do this.

Agreed, as well as most of the pop sites that give RDI's are just as high, it's unfathomable as to how am I supposed to lose weight when my RDI is 2700 and I'm hitting 1500 calories right now and it works. Hmm learn the rules of the game, as one plays the game.

I've found that the best thing to do is to input your activity level as "SEDENTARY" in FatSecret so that it doesn't give you an RDI that includes calories needed for activity. This will cause you to be below your actual calorie needs and result in weight/fat loss due to calorie deficit.

I found a calorie calculator, before I found fatsecret, http://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html and have been using this for my RDI,
