Hello Heather,
I do both. During the week I mostly use the stationary bike, it is just so much easier to come from work and hop on it as opposed to fight my way through traffic. Over weekends I do go out on the road, like this morning I was out for an hour, and then this afternoon I did 30 min inside. The roads are not so busy then. I actually prefer the stationary bike because it is much safer, and I can do other things e.g. watch TV whilst cycling... Few years ago I competed on provincial level but stopped after an accident.

Very nice, Ryan. I'm sorry about the accident. Was it something that you could recover from? Would love to hear more about competing. When you go outdoors what distance do you cover in, say, an hour?

Hi Heather,
It depends. I tend to ‘travel’ further on the stationary bike. On the road there are many variables, the terrain, traffic, route, wind, etc. The other day I managed to do 55 km (34 mile) in 90 min. But then I have to say I was pushing myself very hard and I had the wind at my back. I try to do at least 150 km (+/- 90 miles) per week...

55km in 90 minutes is quite a good pace, Ryan. Do you have spin classes in SA?

No Heather, we don't have gyms here. We mostly hang on the trees and so :)
