Well, I was way off on Memorial Day. I started out fine and was on my way for a walk at the harbor when 38-year-old my daughter called and wanted her mommy to go to the E.R. with her to have a severely cut hand treated. Of course, I went. Of course. But, four hours later (she'll be fine by the way), I still had not eaten lunch and had had only 8 oz. of water. When I got home, I ate a hardboiled egg and had another glass of water. I then took a one hour nap. When I woke up I had the worst headache and I can't even tell you when I last had a headache. It was bad. Then after about 4 hours of this and not even thinking about food or water, I realized that it was probably caffeine withdrawal. By then it was about 8 PM and I know I should eat before 8:30. But the headache was making my stomach a little upset. So, I broke down and made coffee. 20 minutes later, no headache and I ran to a fast food place (well, I drove actually) and ended up with a meat patty and some lettuce. I had one more glass of water. So, I fell short on water and had caffeine. I think I am going to gradually stop the caffiene. I only have one cup of coffee per day anyway, but I guess it makes a difference for me. I can't do the headache thing and work at the same time. Best of luck to all my fellow Atkins folk.

I hear you on the headaches. I get a tremendous amount of headaches mixed with some full-blown migraines and take Imitrex pretty regularly. One thing I've found that helps when you are stopping coffee and you get the headache is to take 1 Excedrin Migraine. It has a little caffeine in it, so it will ease the transition off coffee and help with the headache. I had to give up coffee years ago because of the effect on migraines, but eased off of it with Excedrin...

I drink Folgers 1/2 Caff. I figured 1/2 was better that nothing. I need a little jolt in the morning before I go to work.

I think I will try the half caf idea. I can't take excedrine (although it used to work for me better than anything else) because of prescriptiom medication I take that doesn't allow any other antinflamitory medicines. I plan to continue cutting back on the caffeine (first the half caf, then maybe a quarter) until I am not drinking any. I know it's bad or the insulin production and balance.
