Earthlady's Journal, 04 Jan 12

Although I'm trying to lose a few kilos the main reason I'm here and doing this is because I want to cut the rubbish out of my diet and make sure I eat a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and high quality protein. That's what's happening - I ate pretty well before fat secret but after... I like the food diary so much because I can see at a glance where I could improve my diet still further. I definitely don't want to be deprived and I'm not saying I'll never eat crisps or chocolate again but I've cut back on them to a huge extent in the last four weeks. I can see me staying with fat secret for a long time because I enjoy logging my food and I like journalling - and I like the results I'm getting.

Studies show that dieters who log their food lose more and sustain the loss better than dieters who don't. I would guess that the sustainability point is as valid for non-dieters - the commitment to keeping a log brings with it a feeling of accountability, to be honest to yourself.

I've been feeling considerably better today although I'm still full of sneezes and snot (ugh!), so I went to the gym this evening for a short session of weight training and stretching. I don't feel well enough to have done more, it was enough, but I'm glad I went as I didn't want the break to grow to a whole week.

I think you're spot on about the food journal. It holds us responsible for our actions, and there is no cheating (unless you decide to cheat yourself). This way we can look back and see what good and bad choices we made, and how they affected us. I love it too, and I will definitely be her for ages to come.
