TarahTotts's Journal, 17 Oct 16

Dude! I'm so mad at myself, I caved last night and ate a medium fry from McDonald's BUT I was way under my calories like barely halfway and that's including the french fries, I Want to try and make it to at least 2.000 calories daily because my RDI is 2,800 and with my workout I'm also burning about 600. I haven't felt sick or anything so, I guess it's mostly fat I'm burning. Who knows, even the doc says I'm doing alright for now so we'll see!

I don't want to lose too much weight too fast, I want to stay at about 1 to 2 pounds a week; if there is more great but I would rather take it slow. To folks who may not have known, Try not to lose too much too fast, this actually worsens the appearance of loose/sagging skin take your time so your body and dermis can adjust to your weight loss. It took to grow, give it time to shrink.

Thanks Yolanda, I have been trying to set it in my mind that weight gain will happen, especially with the workout I choose to do because of muscle building but it still get a little down sometimes, I want to see numbers go down not up, and even though I know what it is, there is still those voices "voices" telling me it's pointless. It's a struggle b ut I refuse to quit this time. I don't want to let myself down again.

Here is a voice. It is NOT pointless. EVERY HEALTHY CHOICE HAS A PURPOSE. Your exercise is benefiting your health. Make the best eating choices you can ss often as you can. You can do this.

Ummm...where did you get the RDI number from? Is that the number of calories your body requires to maintain its CURRENT weight? Because it seems reeeeeaaallllllly high. Most diet plans cap your food intake at 1200-1500 calories/day.

Mmm-Hmm, soonsoonsoon is right. If this sight gave you that RDI, it really isn't accurate. Fatsecret gives me 2,100 to lose weight, and I gave myself 1,300 instead because if I ate 2,100 I would maintain (or even gain). Talk to your doc or use your intuition for a good number. Given your weight and exercise level, it should be a little higher than mine like 1,400 to 1,600 everyday.

FS RDI seems to be a limit to maintain the weight you enter. My RDI is 2300 for an active individual but i stay no more than 1600 because i want to lose weight. At your current weight you could lose with 2000 calories. Dropping too low before your body needs it can effect your metabolic rate.

The above are correct about RDI. That number is WAY high. Go to the Mayo Clinic's web site here: http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/calorie-calculator/itt-20084939 and use this RDI calculator. This will give you the number of calories you need to MAINTAIN your current weight. Now, since each pound of fat contains approximately 3,500 calories, adjust the RDI number minus say 500 calories a day to start safely, slowly losing weight. Hope that helps! Best of luck to you!!! <HUGS>

Perhaps the calculator here is a little off. Mayo gave me 2450, and FNIC gave me 2600 perhaps they have different criteria. I don't know.(but FNIC as well as mayo seem to be a little more specific in the types of activity) Either way, My caloric intake has been between 1400 and 1600 I haven't actually reached 2000 Since I've even started my new journey now 3 weeks ago. lol

Good for you, Katsyk! You seem to be right on target. I would stick with that intake, and you should continue to lose...maybe try 1400 daily.

That does seem more conducive to a steady weight loss for you! :) Watch out for those fries! That's not really good nutrition and when you're restricting calories you need to pack in the best nutritional value into what you're eating!

Make your own baked fries at home!

Honestly, I need to AVOID potatoes altogether. Growing up I was a lush HUGE lush for potatoes lol fries, baked potatoes, cheese potatoes, and even though once I got older I stopped eating them as much, it's like it caught up with me after the years so yeah I'm avoiding those babies unless I make them homemade. MY husband loves my homemade mashed potatoes but i only make them once every few months.

Don't sweat the McDonalds french fries, just get Wendy's fries next time, they're way better LOL I tend to find that whatever the recommended RDI the calculators give is too high for me to get good results and I have to go lower. Also, seriously great advice about the quick weight loss and the saggy skin. Some people are really delusional (like a personal trainer or two I can remember) and tell you that if you tone your muscles the skin won't sag at all. Sadly, not all skin can tighten up again, especially after many years of being overstretched (stretch marks) but even if you do get some saggy areas they do eventually tighten up a little over time. I'm actually really glad I gained that little bit of weight back and filled in my skin again, now that I lost the weight again it's firmer this time around somehow. :-D I'll trade my droopy little arms for the big ones ANY day!
