How one larger holiday BBQ meal effects us (read ME). Salt, type of food, and volume do it every time. Had a light breakfast and lunch to try to keep the dinner at bay. But the serving spoon was certainly large for the BBQ and hashbrown potato casserole (it was good), and there were the 2 small cup cakes. Oh well, we all give in occasionally, and live with the consequences. Everyone have a great Memorial Day weekend and enjoy being with your family & friends. As an older combat veteran, please remember in your thoughts and prayers those individuals who gave their lives defending this country or in defense of other countries. God is good !!

Thank you for your service Bionici 🇺🇸. Do you drink additional water when you are having high sodium food? Maybe help flush out the sodium. No idea if that actually works but i do try and do that. Have a lovely weekend. Hashbrown casserole sounds deliciousl

Veterans are #1 in my area and we have a lot of them. Every family I know is represented. My first husband and BIL were Marines in Vietnam . One of my uncles was a Marine. Two other uncles were in the Air Force. My step father and FIL were in the Navy. The BBQ sounded nice. Worth it!

Yearofhealth2023, thank you. I do drink more water when I eat higher sodium food. I believe I had 3 large glasses of tea at the function, and then had another 20 oz of water when I got home. The 1st night it does not do much good for me. But the next day, I really do travel alot between whatever I'm doing and the bathroom. :) And, I do try to drink alot of liquid on the 2nd day. Plus, I did my daily exercise routine this A.M. I am sure the extra temporary weight will be gone in a couple of days. The hashbrown potato casserole was really good. To me, it looks like the potatoes were finely riced. It had a good texture plus there was cheese on top. The BBQ was delicious too. Has always been a favorite.

MorticiaAddams, My paternal grandfather was a doctor in WW1 and served in France. My father served in the Coast Guard as a medical intern prior in 1936. Later he joined the National Guard for a couple of years. Then hewent into the Army in 1942 during the war. However, he did not want to be a doctor in the Army, and served in the artillery in the Philippines, New Guinea, and other areas. Then, I was in the Army in Vietnam in 1967-68. Thankful that all 3 of us got home with no physical or other issues. I don't know about my grandfather, but my Dad and I certainly have friends or acquaintances that did not come back from the wars we were in. BBQ is one of my favorites. I'll pay for it for a couple of days, and then it will be off probably by Wednesday.

Thank you for your service and reminding us what this holiday is really about!💜🇺🇸 Just remember, it’s all about balance. Enjoyment of an occasional treat meal is good as long as you are able to return to your WOE afterwards.

If we acknowledge a holiday meal as special occasion & get back at it afterwards, all is good. a temporary bump. My Dad was career Army & also served during the Viet Nam era (2 tours). My ex-husband was Airforce for 4 years.
