A banner day: My first ice skating lesson! I skated for years -- from kindergarten through high school, but then life took a turn, and I gave it up, and I never really tried again. But I was reading on FS about people going ice skating, and I decided I really wanted to do it. So I called a local indoor rink, and it turned out I could start lessons right away. So off I went this morning. It was a little scary. It IS NOT like the proverbial riding a bicycle. It will take me some weeks to get my "ice legs" back under me. But I did OK. The lesson is 45 minutes, and then you can take another 15 on your own, which I did. So I may not have been moving very fast, but I was moving for the whole hour. I am so so glad I did this. Next: finding aqua-robics class. There's a good one from the park district, but you have to practically inherit a slot. There's a permanent waiting list. So I am going to try to find a private class soon.

Good thing the ice skating was a success -- because the computer went beserk today and the resulting interaction with the consultant caused me to throw a temper tantrum in the middle of his office. Hope it burned lots of calories because it sure didn't accomplish anything else positive.

Thanks, Heather. Birthday coming up for me and Charo on 2-13. Thus begins my 12-month countdown to Medicare. I will be so glad when the cost of my monthly health insurance drops! Of course I send you the same good wishes, birthday or not. Let's make 2016 a great year for both of us.

Were you sore? I just think that is great you went skating.

Mom -- No body soreness really, but my toes hurt for a few hours. The instructor warned me about this. He said that's what happens when you first start skating and you are putting too much pressure on the front of your foot instead of pushing off the back of your foot -- pushing from the heel. The only other thing that hurt was the spot on my right shoulder where the metal that was used to repair my arm in 2007 bumps up against the bone. Sometimes I develop a bruise there when I hyperextend my arm. Next week I am going to have to figure out what part of the motion is causing the shoulder to be sore. The soreness went away after 2 days, but I'd like to avoid this if possible. Thanks for asking.
