AuntieJan's Journal, 09 Aug 11

Well we went through the mediation meeting this morning, my nephew accompanied my sister and I. We met with our attorney first and he explained everything that would take place as well as what might be expected. We all really liked him and agreed that it was money well spent.

The actual mediation ended in an impasse but that actually is in our favor. We need to rework our figures a bit and make some other adjustments but we are very close to giving them what they want. So in all it was a good effort and the outcome appears to be quite positive. We got into trouble largely due to the real estate fiasco many others have experienced, but a good part of it was because of medical expenses incurred from my late BIL. Our expenses there were a huge chunk out of the budget, so we should be able to get back on top of things now. But enough about that.

I had to get up an hour or so earlier to get to the gym, but I got there and did my 30 mins cardio, no time for weights today. Showered and changed at the gym, I love having this option as it often saves me a bit of gas driving back home and then out again to my daily adventures in wonderland.

The training schedule I am following for the 5k is one recommended by my trainer and is available on the Mayo Clinic website. It alternates run/walk days with walk only days and two rest days, with one being an additional walk only day if you desire. It's a 7 week program and I am into the second week... hopefully I will be prepared for September!

I am so glad I threw this new challenge at myself, it was sooner than I planned to try a 5k but I needed to ramp up my program. It was a good decision, I have been re-energized and the scale is moving in the right direction again. I hope I feel this energy on race day LOL!!!

We had a huge storm here today, I drove in it on the way home from the mediation and lunch with sis and nephew, it poured buckets and the traffic was heavy but moving along... thankfully no idiot caused an accident on I-95 today as they often do speeding in the rain. We get this road condition called "Florida Ice" which happens when we have these summer monsoons that come up very quickly and dump large amounts of rain. Within a few minutes, it causes the oil on the asphalt to rise and become suspended in the water and causes an oil-slick condition i.e. the "Ice". Bad stuff and as dangerous as driving in winter ice. So, this has been your Florida meteorological educational segment for today... LOL where did I get off on THAT subject?

Anway, the rain continued on most of the afternoon. so I actually laid down and took a really good nap. I am trying to adhere to my ramblings from Sunday about rest as much as I can, and today was a good day to do it!

Over and out y'all, and peace.

Glad to hear that the mediation session went relatively well. Am interested in your 5k training program and will check out the Mayo Clinic site. I have been walking 5K or more almost every day for years (outside), and mix in some jogging. Have never tried to RUN the whole 5k.

Auntie - Been thinking back over your past journals - you have been amazingly calm for someone who could have been about to lose their home. You must be doing something right!

Thank you Skinny, I'm not sure about half marathon yet... LOL... but if I need to up the challenge I just might do it. I have to keep myself motivated so maybe I'll shoot for something in between. Wishing you a great Wednesday!

Buffy I appreciate your comments, it helps me so much to share with my buddies and that is part of my success. The big part of why I have remained calm despite the challenges before me is that I turned it all over to God. "I can do all things through God who strengthens me". I still do my part by planning and acting on those plans, as I should, and I keep my heart open to receive direction from my Father. It gives me such confidence and inner peace, so I believe this must be the way I should strive to conduct myself. Big hugs!!!

Wow! The 5K plan is different than the standard C25K plan. How do you get from week 7 to running the full 5K or is the intent to run/walk the whole way?

Brandy I am doing this particular one because I didn't have as much time as I really wanted to prepare, this one takes you all the way to race day in 7 weeks and my plan is just to do the best I can, I will do my best to run the whole thing but if I have to walk part of it I will, but I will finish! I had originally planned for a November 5k, which I still plan on, but over the last month it became apparent to me that I needed a new challenge, my program was getting stale and I needed to bump it up a few notches. I saw your recent posts in the forum about C25k and everyone had really good advice... I'm going to download the droid app that was discussed. So that's where I'm at... we will see where I am next month on race day! Thanks for stopping by and visiting and good luck to you too!
