Short journal entry today, since not a lot has changed. Last night's martial arts practice for 1.5 hours burned 533 calories according to my heart rate monitor, 27% of that being stored body fat. I can say with confidence to anyone asking that martial arts is a helluva workout, Muay Thai having the largest cardio impact if I had to pick one.
Today will be a lower body H.I.T. day. I'm going to see if I can get two sets of 12 @405 lbs on the squat and I'm going to try to bump my hack squat up a bit. I've been doing sets of 12 to 15 @ 630 lbs and I think I can push it a little further. Hopefully my coworkers don't mind waiting for a few minutes at the end of the workout since I've noticed I need to do a good warmup before I tackle those bigger weights. :)
Ha! On that note I received a wholly unexpected complement the other day, and one that gives me hope that my workout is on the right path. A young woman who works in different office stopped me on my way to lunch and passed the comment that I was looking "very buff" these days. I haven't heard that since high school, so I was shocked to hear it yesterday. My wife, whom I adore, just started laughing when I told her since I've always believed she was just being kind when she said the same.
It did drive one point home to me. My "body image" hasn't changed. In my own head I pretty much look the same as I did back when I started this. I guess we really are our own worst critics. I hope someone takes heart from that; whenever you think you don't look any different learn my lesson and realize you do. :)
