DSH028's Journal, 23 Mar 23

This is not a new journey to me. I’ve been active and eating “healthy” since my mid 20s; wow, does that seem so long ago and like yesterday, all at once (which is a great The Airborne Toxic Event song, incidentally). But three years ago -yep, in the pandemic- I was diagnosed w/ Type 2 diabetes. I had gained about 40lbs and was well over a “good weight” for someone my size (5’6”). My A1c level was 7.3. For those not familiar, the range typically falls as follows: Normal: Below 5.7%; Pre-diabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%; Diabetes: 6.5% or above. So, 7.3 = not good. I immediately went on Metformin, changed my diet (DRASTICALLY), and started getting back to exercising more consistently. Within 3 months I dropped 40lbs and lost inches. It was awesome! …But it was somewhat unsustainable. I have gained about 15 of the LBs back and want to get completely off of the Metformin (I’m down to taking it once per day). Here’s hoping for a final step towards consistency🍻
