Switching from the clipless pedals to the cages has made all the difference for me in terms of biking. Those clipless pedals were horrifying! With the cages, I am never worried about stopping or falling over, so though my upstroke power may be slightly less, my confidence is much higher, and I don't have to slow down and clip out so freaking early when approaching intersections. The result is that I'm able to go a lot faster with the cages, and I'm having a LOT more fun biking.
Yesterday I OD'd on the exercise a bit, with 10 miles of biking and 4+ miles of running. Though I was able to finish, my body is not quite there yet, and I was fatigued when I got home. I need to save the cross-training for my off days (though it's so hard to resist biking on a gorgeous, sunshine-filled spring day!).
