Well I am my own worst enemy when it comes to sticking to the 16:8 fast this week. They were making omlets when I got to work and I caved on it. My protein smoothie is now lunch. I'm still hoping to hit 235 on the scale tomorrow morning, I'm still nearly a pound away from it. This losing weight thing sure is a long and sometimes torturous process, it would be great to have an "Easy" button for it. Other than my regular walking and normal yardwork and stuff around the house I haven't done any extra exercise the past few days. My back has been acting up, hopefully that will pass. Maybe I just need to force myself to do more and deal with the discomfort, pushing new boundaries is never easy.

Yesterday I got a good deal on fresh ripe strawberries which I was waiting for, so last night I got my yearly batch of strawberry wine started. It should end up yielding about 3 gallons when all is done. As of now I've got 1 1/2 gallons of blackberry, 3 gallons of strawberry, and 6 gallons of gewürztraminer wines in process. There's plans for more but that's enough irons in the fire at the moment. I'm thinking a strawberry Riesling or strawberry Zinfandel would be a nice blend to make. There are some bottles of strawberry wine from a couple years, I over did it on the strawberries so they'd probably do well in a blend. Also, a blackberry merlot just sounds like it might be a good combination. The hard part is you have to wait at least a year before you know for sure if the concoctions are successful are not. But then patience is a virtue, in making wine and in losing weight. Have a great day!

I would like to order some wine, good sir. A gallon or so should get me through the weekend lol. I think you are kicking ass, so keep up the good work. Remember that your program should be tailored to you specifically, so missing a few hours here and there isn't a failure, just tweaking the plan. It is a slow process, but it's worth it :)

I really honestly think omelets are not the worst thing to cave on.....high in protein and usually packed with vegetables. Were you allowed to pick your toppings?

If you're having back problems, go online and look up "exercises for bad backs". Many of mine were created for exactly that and they're great and easy on the spine. Something I've learned, after 3 back surgeries. Try not to do exercises where you have to round or curve your spine. Keep it straight as possible. This is also something taught on several kettle bell sites. Straight as if you have a yardstick laying full length.

Socolova, do you prefer sweet wines? My wife does. Usually fruit wines need to be a little sweet in order to balance some harshness left over once the natural sugars are fermented out. I prefer them less sweet than my wife does. Peach Moscato sounds good, my wife and sister-in-law love Moscato, it's just too sweet for my tastes. I made a peach mead a few years ago you would have loved I'm sure...meads are made from honey. The blackberry wine I'm currently making has a pound of honey in it.

Bill thanks for that link. I really need to study the 16:8 more and understand it better than I do.

Thanks all for the comments and support, I refreshed my screen and suddenly there they are! I'd love to be able to share some wines once they're done, too bad they can't be emailed but there is snail mail if they're packed well. Usually I end up giving a portion of it away to friends/family. Alex-Is-Hawks, I just did some cheese and sliced tomatoes on the omelet...they aren't a bad thing sometimes I'll change up and have an egg/egg white omelet for breakfast instead of a protein shake anyway. I'm just disappointed that I've messed up my 16:8 fast is all, I'll adjust as far as calories and food for the day. CR - I'll check out the exercises, thanks. I want to do some stuff to strengthen and tone up my core, just need to figure out the best way to do that and not aggravate my back more. Starting to get pains down my left leg again, that's not a good thing, and when I stand up it's taking a few seconds to adjust before I can start moving. I hope hope hope that as I lose weight that will keep getting better, and I'm probably still healing since the injury was 6 month ago.

Jmb your wines sound absolutely AMAZING! The strawberry wine sounds really interesting. I'll bet the color on that one is pretty too. Have you ever made any of your wines into port? I'm betting the various fruit wines would make an astounding after dinner port ;-) I have to admit too, my little heart fluttered when I saw you mention Blackberry Merlot. I think of all the reds, Merlot is my fave. What fun for your friends and family to have homemade wine!

Vickie - The strawberry is a very pretty color, not a bright red like the ripened fruit, a duller shade, but still very pretty. And yes, I have made a blueberry port. It just takes a higher concentration of fruit per gallon of wine, then when fermentation is done sweeten it with grape juice concentrate and fortify the alcohol content with straight grain alcohol or vodka. I use vodka. It's excellent, although port is supposed to be aged much longer and it's hard to wait without drinking. Merlot is also one of my favorites.

Wow you have a very patience oriented hobby and it sounds delicious! I love the idea of home made anything! I hope that they all turn out for you and if I ever get to have a hobby maybe I'll have to try that strawberry wine. As for your back bugging you I have a problem that I have to work through often in my shoulder and neck to the point I can't hold my kids or reach up to the eye level shelves. I didn't want to exercise but after a week of hoping it would get better with pain killers, stretching, and taking it easy I said I need my exercise! I got on my Pilates machine and did it and it felt great! the next day I was much better and in another day I was fine! I don't know if that helps you at all considering its your back and I don't know what you do for extra exercise but maybe do something to get it moving and maybe it'll work itself out a bit?

Omlet's AND Strawberry wine... I'll be RIGHT OVER!! Reminds me of college. Not comparing your wine to Boones Farm ... just took me back to a great memory.

M.H. - once I get moving it does get better to a degree. Overall my back has gotten better since the injury and also since I've been losing weight. Part of the problem is nerve compression and that's beginning to haunt me again. If that gets bad again I'll get a short course of prednisone from the doc. I need to work on my abs, that will not only help my lower back but also help flatten my stomach. As for hobbies, I love making stuff...wine, beer, cooking, woodworking, music. At least the last 2 have no calories.

FullaBella - I remember Boones Farm. I promise you my wine is much better. And more potent! :)

Why yes I do love sweet wines...however my true wine love is cabernet sauvignon :) I can't do the drier stuff like merlots...I actually have a blackberry sangria and a red currant in my fridge right now! I've been saving them for my bday! :)

I know JMB.. I imagine mouthwash would be more potent than BF but it was just what we could afford. And WAY better. It sounds incredible.
