Just signed up for the annual California Classic cycling event for May 17. This is the only event where the police and highway patrol actually shut down a portion of the freeway so that we can ride on it. Pretty cool! The freeway portion is only 10 miles but has a few big hills (never realized these were hills in my car until actually riding them on the bike in past years). Hubby and I only signed up for the 35 mile route. His back and knees have been bothering him. In the past, we've done the 60 mile rides. I'm still not up for the 100 mile (century) rides as those go up into the foothills and I'd need to spend an extra $1500 for a bike that's a bit lighter before doing that, which I'm not sure I'll ever do.

I told my husband that I'm gonna be a bit embarrassed at being only a 35 mile cyclist (you place colored entry "bibs" on your bike so everyone knows the route you are taking). How competitive is that?! I'm usually thinking - "aw those are the beginners. How cute!" What is wrong with me?! At least they're out there! I know, stupid that I care - but this is one of the sporting events I'm good at so I always feel good when I've got a higher color bib. Lol! I told him we will just have to beat our time from other races.
