So, today I start the low carb diet. And so far..I HATE it. I was hungry all day the food is blah. The only plus side to it is after dinner I am full. I know how important is it to do this though. And I will only because ever time I try and diet I give up. It is not that it doesn't work, its I give up. Usually it is because I am hungry or I m bored. But this site really makes me want to do this. And also because I would like to know what it is like to be thin. To change my lifestyle. This will not be easy I know that. However I think I am ready. I know change will never happen unless you want it. Now I am a little older I really WANT this.
But I stayed at my target carbs and calories I wanted. I completely stuck with the diet. NO CHEATING. I know it is day one but I for myself am proud. :)

There are lots of ways to be full on low carb. I have always found low carb high protein to be the only diet that can keep a person feeling full. I don't count calories and do eat fat but I do keep a good count of carbs. Eggs, meat, nuts, cheese, chia seeds, and low carb veggies such as spinach keep me full and going. Surround yourself with zero to 1 carb items that you can nibble on instead of the high carb easy to reach treats. Do eat when you are hungry of the low carb items. A slice of whole milk cheddar cheese spread with a little butter or a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter can really fill a person up. As you adapt you will find it easier to fill up and keep going. I have found that my calories don't go crazy eating some fat but I do stay full. My weight loss is slow but is it a loss not a gain. I should have stayed lower carb for the past 15 years instead of gradually eating more carbs and going from a great weight loss accomplishment to my old starting weight. If you need snacking and ways to keep full please feel free to contact me.

I think it's just shocking of the amount of stuff that I love to eat that I can't now or shouldn't be anyways. But I promised I'd give it a few weeks see how it goes. I made meatballs earlier today that I will be having for dinner. They seemed to be pretty good. My boyfriend wanted to bring them for dinner at work so I guess I found one successful one.

Good for you!!!! Substitute ideas include using fresh spinach sprinkled with herbs and mozzarella cheese instead of pasta, mashed cauliflower which is just wonderful no matter if you are low carb or not and ground mushrooms in meat as a filler instead of breading, asparagus everything. Laura Dolson at website about.com is a low carb guru and lots of people share recipes on that site. I gave up all pop (soda) and now just drink La Croix that is carbonated water with natural flavor and zero carbs and no artificial or regular sugars for my fix. I do drink coffee, tea, and use unsweetened almond or coconut milk as well as some super heavy whipping cream. That was the best thing I have ever done for myself was giving up diet pop. For that sometimes sweetener I use a little liquid Stevia found in health foods stores, xylitol, and erythritol. Even these I only use just a little but they do not have the artificial ingredients of Splenda, Equal and others that in the end just enhance weight gain in stead of loss. Low carb veggies are plentiful and also a few strawberries mixed in as well as some lemon and lime juice. Olive oil, coconut oil, butter, and rice bran oil I do use. Initially you will probably eat more meat items but as your body acclimates itself to the low carb way of eating you will find your consumption of meat declines to a lesser level. Do eat low carb items and don't go hungry as that is defeating. Keep up your great work!!!!

You have to stay well-fed on a sustainable plan, Riyankee, oe you won't be able to stay the course. Google up some recipes and get cooking. Lots of vegetarian and vegan recipes are quite tasty and many don't call for fake food or strange ingredients. Remember low carb is not no carb so make every calorie, gram of fat or carb and miligram of socium work to stay in your plan. Make your food earn the right to be on your plate. You can do this, Girl <http://nomnompaleo.com/recipeindex>

Wow. You guys are awesome! I'm a complete stranger and you want to see me defeat my weight problems. Heck, my own mother doesn't support me. She'd be like "hey I'm hungry want to go to taco bell". Even though I tell her countless of times I am changing my eating habits. It's like it goes in one ear and out of the other. I appreciate the help and advice. I did try to message but for some reason it won't send. I also checked out youtube and I did find some stuff I woild like to try.

We help each other, Riyankee, and each of us benefits from the research of our comarades here on FS. Everybody here is in the same boat so we motivate and encourage each other as a little extended family -- especially when your family doesn't exercise and eats double cheeseburgers that smell the whole doggone house! Stay on this site, find some Buddies here and read/write journals (Hey...it's cheaper than therapy) Best of luck to you! :D

Eating low carb is an adjustment. I attempt to focus on what I can eat instead of what I can't. There really are loads of great tasting LC foods out there. As your body adjusts you will find it easier to avoid high carb items. You are making a life choice to eat differently to lose weight and feel better. You are making a big change in your life that is very positive!

A good trick also comes from the paleo community. I have digestive issues and have to be careful with gluten. It sneaks in your diet if you are not careful! I got sick a couple of weeks ago and found the culprit (sunflower seeds, who knew). I even gained 5lbs, that's how sensitive I am. Someone told me to take probiotics and get back on track. The weight was gone almost overnight!! Get you probiotics in and don't rely just on yogurt:) Your digestive health is so important for weightloss:)

What ingredient was in the sunflowers that contained gluten? A few crumbs of gluten and I am sick and foggy for a couple of weeks. I have a bag of sunflower seeds that say the only in gredient is the seeds. Is there something else to look our for?

Sorry it took ma so long to answer. I spend way to much time on facebook:P and not enough longing in my food. I had wondered why I had a reaction to the sunflower seeds until I talked to a celiac. They put wheat in the bag and shake it to make sure they don't stick together. It is not marked on the bag. I don't have a reaction to pistachios from Costco or almonds. also I had a reaction to cocoa powder recently. it doesn't say wheat but I think I am going to get an organic one to see if there is a difference.
