I recently downloaded and started using the iPhone Application for FatSecret and I LOVE the integration it has with the site... Once configured properly, it's a great companion.
What I should mention is that while I find the iPhone handy, I don't use it for EVERYTHING (like a handful of folks I know). Yes, it's incredibly cool, but I just don't think that it solves everything in life. The point being that I had a little moment of awareness what I started actually USING it... and that was that it held intrinsic accountability. [Translation: the value of the application was in itself and the accountability to use it was inside me, I just didn't know it!]
Let me elaborate with some history:
I work in IT and stand (but also sit) in front of a computer for a minimum of 9 hours but more like an average of 11 hours a day... Sounds kinda crazy, huh? Well, I love my job and feel like I'm adding real value to the world, so I don't mind the *time* factor quite so much. That being said, I realized that I was actually DIS-interested in tracking my meals on the computer because I sub-consciously related it to work in some fashion or another... Yes, I DO love my job, but I don't spend a lot of time surfing or doing personal things online and when I'm ready to hang it up for the day I don't want to have to submit my food or struggle to remember what I ate that day...
And while this is my own personal preference, I want to really ENCOURAGE anyone who is reading this to try new things and, more importantly, find what actually WORKS for you...
To get even more specific, I (1) downloaded the free iPhone application, (2) configured the account and use it "on the go". For example, I do the "weigh-ins" at the gym where I can get a good read from an accurate scale, I enter in the meals on the iPhone application while eating them and (3) I hope to continue to trend of using the website for the journal and to encourage others with their healthy weight loss!
