Serenissima87's Journal, 17 Nov 20

Dear Journal,

this is my first entry.
It's been years since I wake up every morning, look in the mirror and dislike what I see. And things got worse since I had my baby girl two years ago.
I realized that even if I don't think about this specifically, food and weight are a costant thought underneath all days routine.

It means that this really matters to me.
And it also means that I need to do something about it before it's too late.

Because I don't like myself, I don't put any effort in dressing me nicely, I don't do anything for my husband to like me more and at the same time, I feel I am being a bad example for my daughter.

This needs to change.

Family doesn't help much.
There is always food coming in and settling in the fridge.
Food that I don't feel like eating, that is not working with my diet, yet it's there, and I feel it's a pity that it get wasted.

"I'll finish this and THEN I'll start my diet"

"I am too tired after work to make separate dinners for me, my husband and my daughter, let's all eat the same food"

"I wish I could cook something healthy but HE wouldn't like it, that's for sure, why making two separate dinners, let's make what he likes".

I know these are all excuses.
There's no reason to avoid following my goals.
And yeah, maybe family would tease me up for the first week, but then they'll understand, won't they?

This Covid situation isn't helping at all.

I know I am not alone in this. That there are many others out there fighting my same food addiction.
Because, in the end, it is an addiction.

I hope writing this journal will help me being more considerate and determined.

MG

PS: I hope somebody is going to read my post and become my Diet Buddy :)

It is difficult with family. People don't like change. They love who you are and seeing you make changes is scary for them. Also, changing up your cooking choices is scary for them too. Ultimately they will get the benefits of you and your cooking changing. Maybe small changes in cooking???

healthy substitutions are very helpful, your mind will learn to accept the change and pretty soon that is the way you will be cooking it and forget that it is a healthier choice. I was surprised how easily my mind was tricked. LOL hang in there the most important thing is "where this is a will there is a way" no one can make you do anything, you are in charge of you.

Hi! I hear you. Just something to consider... 1.My sister is a fabulous cook and cooking & baking is how she shows love. She always brings me my favorite things no matter how many times I've asked her not to. She's a cooker, not a hugger😄. 2. I'm from the single working mom old school of TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT cooking. My kids & now grandkids eat almost anything until they start eating fast food and get ruined. I only give them sweets for dessert IF THEY ATE THEIR MEALS. If not, no dessert and kitchen is closed. 3. Maybe tell HIM you're now going to take turns cooking, it's 2020 and you work too! 4. I don't enjoy cooking so I try to cook several meals at once and vacuum seal in portions (portion control is a battlefield for me)so I can always reheat amount I want. My vacuum sealer was a game changer for me...and no throwing food (or $$$) away! It's my favorite cooking gadget if you can afford one. Anyway, the people on here are fantastic with great meal ideas & support. You got this!💛

One way to tackle this problem: Sign up for one of the challenges on here, doesn't matter which one, whatever appeals to you. Start with a short term challenge. Tell your family about the challenge and then stick to it. That gives them and you a deadline for when meals will be back to normal. And after the challenge is over, see how you feel about starting another challenge. One success will prime you for another successful challenge. Best wishes for good health!

Hi I’m Joe from NYC, I changed my eating habits and I’m following a detox diet that my daughter put me on. I lost 16.6 pounds in 32 days. Let me know if you want the info. Good luck on your journey to a healthy life

I don’t know what your husband likes to eat, but this is how it worked at our house: I cook the same protein & veggie for everyone, then add a starch for everyone else but me. Btw, I’m doing low carb.

I had to make a commitment to myself. My husband has not starved at all during my journey. It is up to me ultimately to take control of my health. The most important thing for me is to enjoy this journey.
