I delivered my own granddaughter this morning at 10:30 am in the back of an ambulance. It made for the best and most excited day EVER!!! I have always wanted to be able to deliver one of my grandchildren, but never thought I would actually get the opportunity to do so since it would be too much of a liability issue for a hospital or doctor. This was not planned. I just lived too far away from my daughter in law to get there in time and we had her call 911. Even then we thought that we would all be able to make it to the hospital in time in the ambulance, but it was not to be. Cassie Elizabeth Hembree decided she was not waiting any longer. I yelled, "I'm a nurse, please give me some gloves." The paramedic said "What size?" and in a matter of just a few minutes and only one push, my granddaughter was born. She weighs 5 pounds 11 oz and is 19 3/4 inches long. And of course she is beautiful!!! Mom (Shannon) and baby Cassie are doing great. Cassie did have to be taken to the NICU because she was having trouble staying warm, but if you had been naked and wet in the back of an ambulance in December, you would have trouble getting warm too! I am definitely one blessed Grandma!
