nchls328's Journal, 09 Mar 13

Today is the 12th day since I have been following Induction and although I have lost 6 pounds I was reading on the Atkins website and realized I had been eating things that I should not have, such as nuts and peanut butter. So I am going to get the Atkins book out of the library so I can read it for myself. In the meantime, can I continue with Induction longer than the 14 days?

I joined a couple of challenges. My goal is to be under 200 pounds by my birthday which is at the end of this month. I think I can strive for 7 to 10 pounds loss per month. I was thinking that if I set small goals for myself it wouldn't seem so overwhelming. 10 pounds as a goal sounds so much easier that 60 pounds.

All I know is I am tired of living an unhealthy overweight life and I am ready for a change!

You can continue on Induction for as long as you want, as long as you eventually transition into the other phases...the book will give you some guidance as to when you might consider transitioning. Each person is different, so you may eventually find out that you can't add a whole lot of other foods.....OR you could find out that you can add quite a variety. The point is that you need to find out where your own Carbohydrate Level for Losing (CLL) is and where your Atkins Carbohydrate Equilibrium (ACE) is. One level (CLL) tells you how low your carbs have to be to lose weight....the other level (ACE) tells you where your carbs can be and still maintain your weight. No need to wonder about those right now, but you'll begin to discover those levels as you move through the 4 stages of Atkins. BTW, I made the same mistake with peanut butter on Induction. Actually PB is a HUGE trigger for me, as I've discovered. Peanuts are actually legumes and so should probably not be attempted until WELL along in Stage 2, OWL (Ongoing Weight Loss). Most other nuts and seeds (no cashews) can be added in small amounts after 2 successful weeks on Induction. Having the book will help you immensely! Good luck.
