Generaly speaking more fiber would loosen you up more. I have not had the problem you describe, I am at the other end of the spectrum. I haven't looked at your food diary but are you eating anything with artificial sweeteners? Some people's digestive track can't handle those.

No I tend to eat meat/fish and fresh vegetables but I do enjoy cream and cheese (in small amounts) This is really starting to get me down!

I did in the beginning, especially right after eating something high in fat. Fiber will help you go, but it should also help to bind things if you know what I mean. You could try making a MIM and see how the fiber might help you.

K - found it not to worry. I can't get flax meal or splenda here :-( I am thinking of having 1/4 cup of bran just to see how it goes.

Where is it you live and can't find it? If it helps, my local store stopped carrying it and I now order it on netrition.com.

NEVER EAT SPLENDA! it is chemically related to DDT which is a bug poison that was banned in the 70's for being so toxic. here's the science to back up that statement: http://www.holisticmed.com/splenda/splendud.pdf
About the diarrhea problem, fiber generally doesn't make you loose its just supposed to add bulk so things move through better. This is a bit bothersome to me that it is causing excess diarrhea. Have you ever been checked for gluten sensitivity? another concept are you adding any over the counter stimulants to help your weight loss? many of these contain herbs that can make you loose. either way you need to back off on whatever you are doing until you are regular because constant diarrhea can lead to a whole host of malnutrition issues.
If you want some direct help we can discuss your issues in more details and I can offer some insights.

I haven't been getting much fibre so am going to up it a bit. I am not eating any gluten (bread, pasta etc) and am not adding anything from across the counter - that would be just mad (though I know some people do! The doctor gave me a thorough exam and came to the conclusion it is diet related and that it will pass (no pun intended) but has given me some probiotic to regulate the bugs in my gut (lovely subject) as he thinks that might help. Thank you EVERYONE for your support.
