I think the hardest part of dieting for me is getting away from the mindless eating that sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing! Yesterday I found myself eating my daughter's leftover or finishing up my son's kool-aid!

I used to do the same. I found that being strict about calorie counting helped, and by taking things out of the house. Maybe replace your son's kool-aid with calorie free Crystal light. Buy less carbs to keep around the house and more whole foods like apple or string cheese. It benefits everyone and you get less temptation.
