RoadRashWriter's Journal, 13 Feb 19

I have not recorded my food intake since Saturday, but I should begin again today. The week, thus far, has not gone well. I woke up Sunday almost unable to move. I sing first alto in my small but mighty church choir so I had to be up earlier than usual to rehearse before church. I hadn't gotten dressed when I realized my back was one giant muscle spasm, so bad I doubted I could even stand for the 3 minutes it takes to sing the anthem. So no church. I have undergone various treatments for spinal stenosis, none of which have been very successful, and the back spasms are what happens on a bad day. I finally figured out I hurt so much because I had overdone twisting movements on the new balance board I had just gotten. I stuck to my eating program until after dinner. After that I resorted to using the only pain killer that really works: alcohol in the form of two martinis.

Monday we went out to dinner at our favorite restaurant, which is about to close for 6 weeks. (it is one of the few in a nearby resort town that stays open during the dead of winter.) Two more martinis. Still I intended to fess up to diverting from the eating program and record as accurate a food intake as I could--on Tuesday (yesterday.)

In the middle of the night I came down with an intestinal virus. I had had a "fresh greens" salad for dinner, and bolognaise so I think I had/have a stomach virus rather than food poisoning. I've had both and this feels more like a virus. Instead of the old standbys of tea and toast I relegated my intake to toast and yogurt. And no exercise either. So far today I have had 1 piece of toast--at 4 AM. Yes another night of interrupted sleep. This will probably continue for another day or two. I suppose the silver lining in all of this is I really don't feel like eating.

Hopefully I will feel like doing some stretching and mild exercise later today.

I don't normally weigh myself except at the doctor's, but my daughter's "Fit Bit" scale is as accurate as the one in the doctor's office. Since I was supposed to see the nurse practitioner yesterday I decided to weigh myself and record it, and was amazed to see that despite a marginal amount of exercise and no counting of protein/carbs and calories I had lost another 1.9 pounds. YEAH! Nearly 12 pounds in 5.5 weeks, I'll take it!
