question - I live a sedentary lifestyle, I'm an office worker and other than walking to work and back, I don't really do much exercise due to bad knees and a bad back. what exercise would you suggest to someone like me?

Don't quote me on this one... but I think a cross trainer doesn't have much "impact" on the body as such (apart from the excercise). Pretty certain that's why we bought ours a few years ago (hubby has a bad back, which in turns affect the knees, legs and feet). Might want to look into it?

I’m the same as you, but I try hard to walk one hour at nights, I have kids and they are supporting me and is amazing, we have to work as a team, even my kids have salad and we just removed coke and some others, it is important to be constant, try walk one hour, you can download an app and count your steps and share in here with us, I have lost 3 kg in one day, I think is because I drink like 2 lts of water and had a lot of food(sorry about my English, and to talk in kg and meters but I’m Spanish living in Madrid). Please don’t give up!!!

Great suggestions everyone so thank you. I'd consider swimming but I can only doggy paddle, seriously I have an avid fear if water which has prevented me from learning.

Then it’s time to conquer that fear. You’ll learn a great life skill and lose a fear. Double win!

In fact triple win as you’ll become healthier.

I've tried many times over the years but I just can't conquer it, shame though as I've always wanted to go down the slides

Sam, I nearly drowned in the sea as a kid and I was terrified of the water. You need to find someone who will help you gain confidence in the water. They can support you physically at first until you feel that you are in control of the environment. Once you know you can float, it will get easy real quickly. Maybe a partner or close friend can help, if not you will probably find a trainer at the pool can help if you just ask. It is so worth it and today i love to swim.

Sam thing happened to me too, and my ex partner tried to teach me several times but as soon as water goes over my head I go into panic mode and start hyperventilating. I think I'm just destined to be a land lover

It's worth sticking with it. For me it took some months so we are not talking a couple of hours, but i am really glad I did. It is great for exercise and weight loss etc, but better than that it is really fun. It takes commitment from you and patience on the part of your supporter.

Maybe it's something to consider, I'll look into local lessons 😊

Waking. The only cardio I do lately. On a treadmill on slight incline. Start gradual and build up the duration.

I walk 2 miles a day to work and back and whether I like it or not I have to walk uphill to get home because I live at the top of a stupidly steep hill

How about something like tai chi? You can do that at home & don't even need to attend a class for it

Interesting, I might just look into that so thank you ☺

A family member of mine uses a children's fitness programme and skips the things she can't do due to a sore back and shoulder and it seems to work well for her, maybe give that a try? Other fitness programmes would also work

Hi Sam, try power walking. Workout a distance of say 4 miles and walk as fast as you possibly can, then the next try to beat that time. Its very effective cardio but safe. Also you could try and work up to yoga shred which is a type of HIIT (high intensity) you can find it on YouTube. It's a lot safer on joints and bones. When your body is ready up the duration. There's lots of exercise videos on YouTube just listen to your body.

Lift weights... it'll do wonders for bone health and is great fun.
