I was wondering if someone could clarify something for me....do you go by your RDI to decide your calorie deficit, or your calories burned? I workout every other day, so my numbers are different depending on the day. Thanks!

Thanks chris77! That makes sense. I do feel way more hungry on my workout days! I’ll try it out.

My RDI is 2000. I was under the impression that I should have a 500 calorie deficit. I guess what you’re saying is to play around with it and find what works for me, right?

When I lost most of my weight I never took into account the exercise...that was extra

I use the macros here on this site. I plug in my food and all the activity I've done (including sitting at my desk all day) then check the "list view" for my calories deficit. I'm trying to maintain at least a 500 calories deficit each day, but the last three days it's been over 1000. I think it's just too bloody hot to eat.

Yep! Like some here I don’t have much gym time truckin’. So on just drivin days I try to stay around 1000 calories. Then on active days loading/unloading, I allow myself 1500. It’s a struggle but I don’t normally factor excersise into the day knowing those active days will be better burn days. Whew! Hope that’s all clear as mud!

I’ve settled on 1900 calories per day... male sedentary, 62 yrs old guy... found MY zone 😜.

I go by calories used each day. The RDI is just that ..... a recommendation. It is generally well founded but does make some assumptions about body composition. As an older woman, my muscle mass is not what it was when I was 25 or 30 soooo ..... my BMR is lower than it was then at the same weight and height. It also assumes a rate of energy expenditure from moving around, working or exercise. At 5’8” and 190 pounds, my RDI is ~2000 calories/day. That sounds high to me for weight maintenance. To lose weight, I am staying at 1000 calories/day. When I was 35, that resulted in a 2 pound loss every week. No more. Now I am grateful for 1 pound every week.

chrisw77 I definitely will not blame the cico diet. That’s why I’m trying to tweak my calories. I’ll try the percentages and see what I come up with next week.

rosio that makes sense to just use workouts as an extra burn in the process of trying to drop. I was looking at the calories burned and was getting thrown off by that (including sleep and rest). I didn’t plan on eating more calories based off of what I burn, just eating less on the days I don’t workout😊

that is how I do it. I upped my calories to my maintenance and use my calories burned in exercise to burn off some of the fat. I need to build muscle and can't do that with a low calorie diet

SoCalPam I didn’t realize there was a list view. I’m sure there are lots of things I do in a day that could be calculated, considering I barely sit down during the day. I feel like I’m doing better with 500 calorie deficit as well. It hasn’t been super hot here, but I have been a bit bummed out, which has meant me eating less than 1000 as well. Can I calculate sulking?!😂

baskington that’s definitely something to consider for myself. Thanks for sharing👍🏼
