Does anyone write their food down somewhere other than on Fatsecret?

When I eat a dish that is hard to break down to it's components I tend to not want to document it. I'm thinking of just having a paper or Evernote notebook where I just record stuff and not worry so much about the calorie content.

I do. I bought an agenda calendar book and it works perfect for my tracking. Something about actually writing it down makes me feel more accountable. I track in FS when I am trying to watch my macros.

I write it down in two different places, more work but the two offer differ on the macro's and calories so it helps me to catch mistakes. However you do it is up to you. as long as you are figuring out everything like you would tracking it here, it will help to guide you when you go back to see how different things effected your diet. getting a food scale helps a lot

I only use fs. I know what you mean though. It can be a pain. Sometimes I don’t eat stuff I would like just because I don’t feel like figuring out the macros

I find FS helpful to have my food and my weight in one place. Looking back over this data allows me to make decisions about my diet.

I think FS is great for macros as PJNappi said, but yeah, it's a pain and I have definitely not eaten something so I don't have to break it down in FS like CrashtestDawnie mentioned! LOL Althought at this point I'm more likely to eat it but not record it. I do love FS for tracking macros, and for helpful people like you all!

I only use this site. Usually it’s not a problem for me as I rarely stray from my typical meals each day. But occasionally it’s a pain. When it’s complicated, I break it down into its components as best as possible. So far it’s been helpful.

you can make recipes and save them, that way you only have to log the recipe the next time you have it. Some places like applebee's menu items are listed in the data base too. I look them up on the web and can just enter the numbers for the entrée when they are not in the date base

Atkins has a good place to keep up with meals, snacks, and exercise. I write in both

I also log food into the Fitbit app. It can get frustrating trying break every thing down

I tend to just pick something close or just document the more high cal stuff until I get the chance for more detail.

Only here. Count me in as one of the people who will occasionally skip something because it's too difficult to log. That said, I make the majority of my meals from scratch, so it does sometimes feel like I spend way more time tracking food than I should...Now, if I tracked consistently, it would be that much harder! 😉

I have read that counting every calorie and carb can take a physical and mental drain on people.

I don’t find it draining. I did find that extra 20 pounds that I gained last year mentally and physically draining and I’m pretty motivated not to gain it back.

I log everything here. You can add recipes if you want, which is sort of nice for other people, to give them ideas. And then it's there when you make it next time. I guess it all depends upon how serious you are. I'm hella serious. I want to give myself the absolute best shot at this, so I meticulously log every darn thing.
